Capital City Vipers Bantam A win Hershey Thanksgiving Day Tournament
Congratulations to our very own Capital City Vipers Bantam A team as they captured the Bantam A Championship in the 2017 Hershey Thanksgiving Tournament. The team battled through a full and competitive bracket over the three days with a decisive final win over the Jersey Shore Wildcats 7-1. The team opened the tournament on Friday and was able to outlast strong goaltending from the Lawrence Flames to get things started with a 4-2 win at the Regency Rink in Lancaster.
On Saturday, playing in the Old Hershey Arena at 7:45 am the Vipers faced the NJ Stars (Inzano) team and posted a second tournament victory at 4-2 adding another 8 points to their total. Capping off a long Saturday the Vipers played a tough matchup at 7:30 pm at Klick Lewis against the top-seeded NJ Freeze (Minor) team. It was a spirited game at a breakneck pace, and the NJ Freeze came out on top 4-1 as the Vipers struggled to finish off some quality scoring chances. Despite the loss Saturday night, the Vipers were able to move into Semifinal action on Sunday as the 4th seed.
The Semifinal game was a rematch against the NJ Freeze in an early morning 7:00 am contest at Twin Ponds. The Vipers capitalized on missed scoring chances from the night before to earn a victory and a spot in the Championship game of the tournament, 5-2.
The championship game set up the Vipers against the #2 seed Jersey Short Wildcats in a rematch from an earlier contest this season in Philadelphia’s Silver Sticks tournament. The Vipers wasted no time jumping out to a quick lead and did not look back on their way to their 2nd tournament Championship of the season. During the championship game, Paul Smith lead the way scoring 3 goals, with Nolan Zortman adding 2 of his own and William Hershey and Jonah Burd finishing the game off each with a late goal. The Vipers saw excellent goaltending throughout the Hershey Thanksgiving Tournament by Conner Halpert and Nick Mutschler.
