Team of the Week DVHL Travel Mite Black

The Capital City Vipers Mites Travel Black team is the youngest of our two travel mites teams. As the club continues to grow, it is an honor for these boys to have the opportunity to play travel hockey at such a young age. With an average age of just over 7 years old, there is no shortage of energy in the locker room. Just a couple short months into the season and you can see the bonds and friendships forming between these young men. Travel hockey is a new experience for these young players and they have welcomed the challenge.
The Mites Travel Black team is extremely fortunate to be led by two great coaches, Andy Shingle and Ryan Schultz. Both Andy and Ryan are focused on and drive home the "Team First" mentality. That is especially evident when witnessing these boys immediately encouraging their goalie after giving up a goal or celebrating a great pass as much as a goal scored. Andy and Ryan are fostering a supportive and reassuring atmosphere while giving these kids the opportunity to thrive.
The Mites Black team was fortunate enough to have participated in the Youth On Ice event last week at the Giant Center. Along with playing between periods, many of the boys got to tour the locker room and witness warm-ups from the bench area. It was a great evening and the team would like to send a sincere 'Thank You' out to Cara Flod for all of her hard work in getting that evening organized for us.
Mites Black will be playing in 2 tournaments this season! First is the Nutcracker Tournament in Pittsburgh over the holiday break. Mites Black will be participating in the Capital Showdown in Annapolis, MD at the end of the season. The experience of traveling together as a team is something these boys will take with them for years to come.
The team, is selling Viper Logo hockey pucks to help raise money for their team! Half of the proceeds will go toward defraying tournament expenses for the team and the other half of the proceeds are being donated to the Penn State Children's Hospital. Donating time and money to children less fortunate is a great lesson for our kids and shows them how lucky they are to be able to play this amazing game!! If you are interested in buying pucks, please see Jason Shaffer, Manager of Mites Black.
Youth sports organizations would not survive without volunteers. Mites Black would like to thank both Andy Shingle and Ryan Schultz for devoting their own time and energy into coaching and helping our boys grow into respectful and dedicated young men.
